Nickelodeon (often shortened to Nick) is an American basic cable and satellite television network launched on December 1, 1977, and is owned by Paramount Global (formerly known as ViacomCBS) through Paramount Media Networks (known before as MTV Networks then ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks) and based in New York City. This channel aired Ren and Stimpy along with MTV and Spike (now called Paramount Network since 2018). Owned by Paramount Global, and operated under its Nickelodeon Kids and Family Group, it originally began broadcasting as Pinwheel in 1977 before relaunching with its current name in 1979.

This company is where John Kricfalusi used to work here until he was fired after Man's Best Friend.

Sometime in 2018 after the events of John Kricfalusi's sexual allegations incident, the original Ren & Stimpy series was removed from all digital sources, including Amazon (not counting the DVD sets) and iTunes, so even before Nickelodeon removed Ren & Stimpy from all digital sources, the NickSplat YouTube channel also removed any video relating to the series until 2019, Netflix removed Ren & Stimpy as well as all of Viacom's shows in 2013 due to Netflix's contract with Viacom expiring on Spring 2013, and the original series was removed from NickSplat until February 2019.

Trivia[]

  • The show's creator, John Kricfalusi, worked for Nickelodeon until 1992. He was fired along with his company, Spümcø, after months of arguments over the way he was directing Ren & Stimpy, including Man's Best Friend because it was the episode that was going to air along with Ren's Toothache, but it was replaced by Rubber Nipple Salesmen due to one scene taking a step way too far where Ren Höek beats up George Liquor with an oar. George Liquor was removed from the show and banned from the rest of the series since John was fired.
  • Ren and Stimpy's pilot, Big House Blues was made in production in 1989 and it was completed either in the same year or 1990 before its release.
  • Craig Bartlett worked on three episodes of Ren and Stimpy in the last two seasons and left production from Ren and Stimpy before he went on to create Hey Arnold! for Nickelodeon, and Dinosaur Train for PBS Kids after Hey Arnold! ended in 2004, but came back with its Jungle Movie that aired on TV.
  • Nickelodeon does have a mascot, their mascot of Nickelodeon is SpongeBob SquarePants, who is the title character from the franchise of the same name.
