STINKY TEATS

"Happy Happy, Joy Joy!" was first heard in the sixth episode of the first season "Stimpy's Invention", and has since become one of show's most famous hits. It's known to be Stimpy's favorite song. This has been rated at the 78th greatest moment in Nicktoon history.

"Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy" was composed by Chris Reccardi and its lyrics were written by Charlie Brissette and John Kricfalusi. A cover of this song, performed by Wax, is included on the 1995 tribute album Saturday Morning: Cartoons' Greatest Hits, produced by Ralph Sall for MCA Records.

When this song was released on the album You Eediot!, Bob Camp sang the song due to John Kricfalusi's firing.

The line "happy, happy, joy, joy" is first used in the episode "Space Madness" when Stimpy happily rubs the TV Guide on Ren's head. The song is first played in episode six, "Stimpy's Invention". It's sung by a character introduced as "Stinky Whizzleteats", who is named in the episode's script as Burl Ives. Several references to Burl Ives's songs and movie quotes are sprinkled through the song, giving it its surreal air.

Throughout the course of the series, Stimpy, and occasionally Ren, can be heard humming the song or singing it, as Stimpy sung it in the shower in "Haunted House" while Ren hummed it in "Jimminy Lummox". In the episode "Stimpy's Pet", Sid is heard singing the song in the shower saying "stinking" before the second "joy" in the song.

Lyrics[]

Hello boys and girls,

This is your old pal, Stinky Wizzleteats

This is a song about a whale,

NO! This is a song about being happy

That's right! Its the happy happy, joy joy song!

Happy happy, joy joy

Happy happy, joy joy

Happy happy, joy joy

Happy happy, joy joy

Happy happy, joy joy

Happy happy, joy joy

Happy happy, joy joy joy!

I don't think you're happy enough,

That's right! I'll teach you to be happy!

I'll teach your grandmother to suck eggs!

Now boys and girls, let's try it again...

Happy happy, joy joy

Happy happy, joy joy

Happy happy, joy joy

Happy happy, joy joy

Happy happy, joy joy

Happy happy, joy joy

Happy happy, joy joy joy!

If'n you ain`t the grandaddy of all liars!

The little critters of nature...

they don't know that they're ugly.

That's very funny!

A fly marrying a bumble bee!

I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me! WHY didn't you believe me?

Happy happy, joy joy

Happy happy, joy joy

Happy happy, joy joy

Happy happy, joy joy

Happy happy, joy joy

Happy happy, joy joy

Happy happy happy happy

happy happy happy happy

happy happy, joy joy joyyyy!

Trivia[]

  • This song became a popular hit for the series.
  • Ren and Stimpy's dance to "Happy Happy, Joy Joy!" was later used for the SNICK commercial bumper when the show was airing on that line up. The only difference is that Ren and Stimpy are dancing on the SNICK couch instead of under spot lights.
  • "Happy Happy, Joy Joy!" was included as a track in the 1995 album Saturday Morning: Cartoons' Greatest Hits, a tribute of Saturday morning cartoons (mostly ones from the 1960's and 1970's) hosted by Drew Barrymore. This version of the song was performed by the band Wax. Also, the song appeared in two Sara Lee commercials during 2006.
  • The quotes that Stinky Wizzleteats says throughout the song are references to the works of singer and actor Burl Ives including the movies The Big Country and Summer Magic and the music album Burl Ives Sings Little White Duck and Other Children's Favorites.
    • The lines "This is a song about a whale," and "That's very funny! A fly marrying a bumble bee!" are references to the songs "The Whale" and "Mother Goose Songs" respectively which were both featured in the album Burl Ives Sings Little White Duck and Other Children's Favorites.
    • The lines "I'll teach your grandmother to suck eggs!," "If'n you ain`t the grandaddy of all liars!," and "I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me?! However several quotes that Wizzleteats says are misquoted from the film including the second quote, "If'n you ain`t the grandaddy of all liars!" in which Ives' says, "If you ain't the mother and father of all liars!" and the third quote that Wizzleteats says, "I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me?! WHY didn't you believe me?" is also misquoted as Ives' says, "I told you! I told you I'd do it! I told you, but you didn't believe me! Damn your soul, I told you!"
    • The line, "The little critters of nature... they don't know that they're ugly." is a reference to the film Summer Magic another film that featured Ives.
