Ren & Stimpy Wiki

"Altruists" is the fifth episode of Ren & Stimpy "Adult Party Cartoon".

Plot[]

Ren Höek, renowned lover of humanity, and his friend Stimpy decide that they must do everything in their power to help a couple of misfortunates; a woman and her handicapped (headless) son, by building a house for them.

Characters[]

Trivia[]

  • This is the longest Ren & Stimpy episode in the franchise, clocking in at 40 minutes.
  • This is one of the three Adult Party Cartoon episodes that did not air on TV in the US, due to the series' early cancellation. It instead debuted on the Ren & Stimpy: The Lost Episodes DVD.
  • The two kids seen in this episode are likely the same ones from "Big Baby Scam".
  • This episode is wildly infamous for the scene in which Ren saws a piece of wood in half on Stimpy's back, with a strap-on saw, simulating sexual intercourse.
  • The angry duck bears a striking resemblance to Daffy Duck, a character in the Looney Tunes franchise. The only difference between the two is that the duck in this episode has green feathers, while Daffy has black feathers. Some also compare him to Plucky Duck from Tiny Toon Adventures, considering they both have green feathers.
  • This episode is intended to be a Three Stooges parody.
    • One of the scenes where the Lady calls for cheese is a direct reference to the short Horses' Collars, where Curly does the exact same thing.
  • The decor shown in the Lady's new house is worth $23,441.50.
  • This is the only episode that wasn't originally conceived for the original show, and the only Adult Party Cartoon episode that was conceived by Eric Bauza rather than John K.
  • The duck is a parody of Plucky Duck from Tiny Toon Adventures, a show which John K. hated.
  • This episode was written by Eric Bauza, the voice actor of Stimpy in APC.
    • The controversial log-sawing scene was his idea.
  • It's unknown if Stimpy had a Sicilian or a Neapolitan accent in the roof scene in the Italian dub.
  • John Kricfalusi considers this to be the best Ren & Stimpy episode he ever worked on.

Reception[]

Well-known cartoon devotee Thad Komorowski gave this episode two out of five stars on his Sick Little Monkeys: The Unauthorized Ren & Stimpy Story book. He said in regard to it: "Obscenely long and woefully unfunny. The longest Ren & Stimpy cartoon ever".

On IMDb, the episode currently has a rating of 6.4/10.

Goofs/Errors[]

  • When Ren says "Shame on you!" to Stimpy, his hat disappears.
  • This episode reveals that Stimpy is afraid of "spooks", although he wasn't scared in "Haunted House".
